The Project
The original piers (A-E) at the Tutukaka Marina were installed in 1982 and were showing signs of fatigue and failure. In December 2010, Total Floating Systems were awarded the contract to rebuild the five piers at the Tutukaka Marina.
The Tutukaka Marina Management Trust
decided to install Total Floating Systems
one piece round ended pontoons that were
successfully installed at the Whangamata
Marina.
Being an existing marina the piers had to be
replaced sequentially to allow the marina
management and berth holder to relocate
their boats whilst the piers were being rebuilt.
It was therefore critical to ensure that the
pier completion dates within the project
programme were achieved. Communication
and co-ordination between Tutukaka
Marina and Total Floating Systems proved to
be effective and the transition between the
piers was efficient and seamless.
The feedback from the Tutukaka Marina has been positive and the boat friendly round ended pontoons have been well received by the berth holders.
The work was carried out by Total Marine Services Northland crew and the rebuild of the 157 berth marina is expected to be completed by the end of September 2011.
